In the first half of 2020, The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) surveyed nearly 1,500 post-secondary students across Canada at 94 different institutions.

Help! Managing Your Money on Campus was Born

The Help! program was designed to address the specific needs of post-secondary students through first five, then eight, and now ten peer-delivered financial literacy workshops.

Our Findings:

The top five challenges students are facing across Canada:

  • Dealing with financial stress in general (64%)

  • Preparing and working with a budget (57%)

  • Paying tuition fees (53%)

  • Paying and managing monthly living expenses (50%)

  • Difficulty generally knowing how to manage their finances (48%)

The top five topics students would like to know more about:

  • Investing money for the future (76%)

  • Ways to save money/creating and working with a budget (59%)

  • Building a financially healthy life (55%)

  • Preparing tax returns (55%)

  • How to manage major expenditures (55%)

The top five ways students would like to learn about managing their money:

  • Help from parents/guardians (64%)

  • Websites and online resources (62%)

  • Help from a financial institution (55%)

  • Financial advisor (50%)

  • On-campus workshops providing tools and resources (43%)
